The Apostolic Faith
Our faith was founded on the ministry that God left with the Apostles. Acts 2:42 says, "And they continued steadfastly in the Apostles Doctrine and fellowship, and breaking of bread, and in prayers." After the people were baptized, they continued in the faith under which they were saved... the Apostles' Faith or the Apostolic Faith. Jesus prayed for the entire world in Luke 17:20, "Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word." He was talking about the Apostles' word. From this we understand that Jesus left this ministry in the hands of the Apostles, for them to teach the people. The Apostles are the foundation for the New Testament Church, which we are. Seeing that we are no longer under the law, and that Jesus is the fulfilling of the whole law; our life-living does not begin with the law, but with the book of Acts. Understanding this, we know that God inspired the Apostles to write everything from Acts to Revelation. We also know, according to the Word of God, that Jesus left the "keys to the Kingdom of Heaven" with Apostle Peter. When speaking to Apostle Peter, Jesus called him Cephas (being interpreted "rock" or "stone"). Jesus also said in Matthew 16:18, "And I say also unto thee, Thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it." Therefore, upon Apostle Peter was the church built. We also know that God sent the Apostle Paul to preach unto us, the Gentiles. So we see that God built the church upon the Apostles.
The ministry that saved and formed the first church came from the Apostles, according to Acts 2:14-47. The keys of the Kingdom of Heaven were left in the hands of the Apostles. The Word of God from Acts to Revelations was written by the Apostles. And Jesus prayed for them that believe on Him through the word of the Apostles. Therefore, our church is built upon the teachings of the Apostles.
We at Bibleway pray that we as a part of the body of Christ, represent Him in ways that will inspire others to follow and live after God; that we will preach Christ and Him crucified. As we reach out to those that are lost, that they be found; those that are hungry, fed; they that are naked, clothed. And that every one know and understand that they are loved and needed.
